Weight Loss Tips - Discover a Few Reasons Why Your Weight Loss Program is Not Working Better

Losing weight is not an easy proposition. It takes dedication, perseverance and determination plus a good weight loss plan. Whether you design your own eating plan or use one of the amazing programs that are available today, it is necessary to stick as closely to the plan as you possibly can for success. Choosing the right approach to weight loss is your first step. The plan you choose should be filled with nutritious foods and a balanced menu plan. When choosing your program you need to find one that includes food that you enjoy. If you are forcing yourself to eat foods you really don't like it will be pretty difficult to stay on the plan for very long. The portions should be small but large enough so you are not starving yourself. There is no way you will stay with a plan that is too restrictive. It will get real old real fast.

If you have chosen a good weight loss program but are not losing very quickly there are a few good reasons this can happen.

Dehydration

Dehydration will actually cause you to gain weight. Your body is 70% water solutions and must have enough water to replace lost liquids every day to function normally. It is essential to drink eight glasses of alkaline water each day. To create alkaline water you can add alkaline that you buy in a health food store or you can add the juice of a fresh lemon. Tap water is not a good choice but adding lemon will help a great deal.

Body's pH balance is out of whack

The body needs to maintain a 60/40 percent balance between alkaline and acid. If there is not sufficient alkaline in your system or way too much acid, then the body will expend energy working to bring the pH factor back into balance. Basically really healthy foods like fruits and leafy vegetables are alkaline producers. Acidic foods are mostly the junk food items and processed foods with artificial flavors, sweeteners and preservatives. Following a good weight loss program should help to bring your pH levels back into proper balance.

Skipping meals!

It is a huge misconception to think that not eating meals will make your weight loss quicker. NO, in fact it will cause you to gain weight. The body is designed to protect you and if you are missing meals it will assume you are being starved and will begin to store the food you do eat as fat to protect you from starvation in the future. To keep your body from going into protection mode and continue to burn the calories you consume you should be eating small meals along with small snacks throughout the active part of your day. It is best to stop eating after your last big meal which is usually around 6 or 7:00 in the evening. Going to bed with heavy food in your stomach is not the way to burn calories. Your eating program should be three main meals and two snacks every 2 to 3 hours during the day. The portions should be kept small but a steady intake of food keeps your metabolism level and helps your body burn more calories.

Disease, medications and infections

If you have any kind of disease, especially diabetes, your body is busy fighting off free radicals and trying to heal itself. If you are taking medications they will often interfere with your metabolism or the ability your body has to burn calories. Some women are prone to yeast infections and battle them often. If they are not correctly handled the infection can spread throughout the body and interfere with weight loss. Again the body is struggling to fight the infection and cannot effectively burn calories. Digestive problems will also severely interfere with weight loss. If constipation is a chronic problem the body is just not able to absorb the nutrients from the food you eat. If the colon is clogged, the body will not be able to function well enough to burn calories.

Lack of exercise!

Although it is possible to lose weight on a good weight loss program without including a consistent exercise regime, the weight will come off very slowly. The body was created to be a mobile unit that gets your from one place to another. To keep the joints lubricated exercises of some sort are necessary. To burn excess calories a 20 minute workout three times a week on a consistent basis will speed up the burning of calories. One pound of weight equals 3500 calories. You can do the math. If one pound is 3500 calories it will take a full week to lose just less than one pound with just dieting. Exercise does make a big difference. Besides this, as you lose weight you need to strengthen your muscles and tone them or they will end up flabby and weak.

Yo-Yo Dieting and age

Every time you go on a strict diet and gain the weight back, almost always plus some, your body has to work harder to burn calories. Men lose weight much easier than women. It is not fair but is a fact of live until the man gets caught up in the yo-yo diet trap. As we grow older the body struggles to meet the needs of age and losing weight becomes a slower process. Again the way to increase weight loss is to keep the body moving. Exercise is especially important to keep the muscles toned and strong as we grow older.

Cheating

Cheating on your diet plan will throw the delicate balance of the foods out of kilter and drastically slow the results. If cheating is a problem for you it might be better to try a different program like the every other day plan.
